چکیده

This study was undertaken to determine the assimilation rate of goldfish, Carassius auratus, when given a diet of high carbohydrate, or high protein concentration since some foods are generally better assimilated than others. Two similar experiments were conducted over a period of two weeks. The assimilation rate for a high carbohydrate diet, combination diet of protein and carbohydrates, and high protein diet were determined. In the first experiment there were 16-20 fish per tank, the fish were feed 1g of food every 12 hours. Every 24 hours, the fish tanks were cleaned to collect the fecal material and uneaten food. For the second experiment there were 15 fish per tank and similar procedures as experiment one were followed. Using ANOVA and Tukey tests, the results for the first experiment did not show a significant difference between the diets, with assimilation efficiency being similar to each other (high carbohydrate: 72.9%, combination: 71.70% and high protein: 78.8%). The second experiment did show significant difference (P<0.0005) between the assimilation efficiency of three diets (high carbohydrates: 61.8%, combination: 65.2% and high protein: 79.0%). The three diets were compared and it was found that the diet with a high protein content had a significantly higher (p<0.05) assimilation rate than the high carbohydrate diet in the second experiment set. From the results it can be concluded that a diet with a higher protein concentration is assimilated better than a high carbohydrate diet.

Growth and feed utilization of goldfish (Carassius auratus) fed graded levels of brewers yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae)

In this study, a feeding trial was conducted to examine the potential of replacing fish meal with brewers yeast in practical diet of goldfish (Carassius auratus). Five isoproteic (37% CP) and isocaloric (3350 kcal/kg) diets were formulated to contain graded levels of brewers yeast. Fish meal protein was replaced by 0%, 15%, 25%, 35%, and 45% of yeast. Each diet was randomly allocated to triplic...

Effects of zinc sulfate (ZnSO4) in diet on the growth performance and gene expression of Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and Ghrelin in goldfish (Carassius auratus)

The zinc element (Zn) is one of the micronutrients and an essential element of the body which has some deleterious and irreparable effects on growth in case of lack it. Thus, we aimed to assess IGF-1 in goldfish with Zn deficiency and to investigate the effect of Zn supplementation on these parameters. Goldfish  (Carassius auratus)  juvenile  (3.5 g)  were fed purified diets based on casein as ...

Effects of troxerutin on mRNA expression of the genes encoding lysozyme and tumor necrosis factor-α and histology in goldfish (Carassius auratus) skin

Troxerutin, a derivative of the natural bioflavonoid rutin, has important biological effects, including immunostimulatory activity. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary troxerutin supplement on histology and mRNA expression of the genes encoding lysozyme and tumor necrosis factor-α in goldfish, Carassius auratus skin. Fish fingerlings with mean initial weights of 2.74 ± 0.08 g we...
